Alaina McMillan, a fifth year guard from Brantford, ON, is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Feb. 19-25, 2024.

McMillan led the Huskies to their second straight Atlantic University Sport women's basketball championship, and was named Most Valuable Player of the championship tournament for the second straight season. In a pair of games, McMillan averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

In Saturday's 71-61 semfinal win over STFX, McMillan scored nine points, adding four assists, three rebounds and a steal.

It was in Sunday's 64-49 final victory over UNB where McMillan really shined. She poured in 22 points - including 15 in the second half - adding six assists, three rebounds, three blocks and two steals. McMillan's defensive intensity and clutch shot-making was instrumental in the Huskies outscoring the REDS 23-4 in the second period to secure their second straight championship.

McMillan, who was named an AUS First Team All-Star for the third consecutive year earlier in the week, was also named a Tournament All-Star for the second straight year.

McMillan and the Huskies become the first team to repeat as AUS Champions since the Acadia Axewomen in 2018-19 and 2017-18. The Huskies will now represent the AUS at the U SPORTS Women's Basketball Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Alberta, March 7-10 in Edmonton.
