Peverill, Widmeyer named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Nov. 7-13

Men's cross country athlete Andrew Peverill and women's basketball guard Sophia Widmeyer have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Nov. 7-13.

Andrew Peverill, a fifth year cross country athlete from Lower Sackville, N.S., is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 7-13.

At Saturday's U SPORTS Cross Country Championship, Peverill finished in sixth place with a time of 24:47. His sixth place finish qualified him for U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian status, and was the highest finish for an AUS athlete since 2008 (David Gerych, St.FX).

Peverill's First Team All-Canadian honour adds to a decorated career which includes three AUS Championships (2019, 2021-22), five AUS First Team All-Star selections (2017-22), and the 2017 AUS Rookie of the Year.

Sophia Widmeyer, a fifth year guard from Dartmouth, N.S. is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 7-13.

Over a pair of wins against the U SPORTS #7 ranked UNB REDS, Widmeyer averaged 28 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 35.5 minutes per game.

In Friday's 85-84 overtime win, Widmeyer scored an AUS season high 37 points on 14/26 from the field and 5/8 from beyond the arc, and added six rebounds and three steals over 39 minutes played.

In Saturday's 82-77 win, Widmeyer again led the Huskies with 19 points, including a perfect 11/11 from the free-throw line., and added five rebounds, three assists and one steal over 32 minutes played.

On the season, Widmeyer ranks fourth in the AUS in scoring with 19.5 points per game. The Huskies weekend sweep improved their record to 5-1, tying them for the top record in the conference.
