Peverill, Mikanovich named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Feb. 6-12, 2023

Men's track & field athlete Andrew Peverill and women's volleyball left side Emilia Mikanovich have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Feb. 6-12, 2023.

Andrew Peverill, a fifth year runner from Lower Sackville, NS, is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Feb. 6-12, 2023.

Peverill finished first in the 1000m at Saturday's Saint Mary's Open meet, setting a new school record with a time of 2:23.43, breaking his own record of 2:25.78 (set in 2019), as well as the Nova Scotia indoor provincial record (2:23.70, set by former Olympian Geoff Harris in 2012). Peverill is currently ranked #1 in the U SPORTS 1000m rankings.

Two hours later, Peverill finished fourth in the 600m, with a time of 1:21.44, breaking another Saint Mary's school record.

The 2018 AUS Track & Field Rookie of the Year, Peverill hopes to continue the success of his senior season with a strong showing at the upcoming AUS and U SPORTS Championships.

Emilia Mikanovich / Women's Volleyball / Minsk, Belarus / 1st year / Science

Emilia Mikanovich, a first year left side from Minsk, Belarus, is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Feb. 6-12, 2023.

Mikanovich combined to record 42 points, 27 kills, 14 service aces, 33 digs, two assists and one block, in three victories over the Memorial Sea-Hawks this weekend.

In Friday's three-set victory over the Sea-Hawks, Mikanovich recorded a game-high 17 digs and four service aces, along with four kills and an assist.

In Saturday's three-set victory over the Sea-Hawks, Mikanovich recorded a game-high six service aces, along with six kills, three digs and a block.

In Sunday's four-set victory over the Sea-Hawks, Mikanovich was named Subway Player of the Game with a game-high 17 kills and four service aces, along with 13 digs and an assist.

The Huskies are currently on an eight-game winning streak, moving into second place in the AUS standings with a 14-4 record. Since Mikanovich joined the Huskies in January, the Huskies have a 9-1 record.
