SMU’s Clayton drops 24 points in 102-72 win over CBU

(Halifax, N.S.)—The Saint Mary's Huskies cruised to a 102-72 victory over the CBU Capers Saturday night in AUS men's basketball action from the Homburg Centre.

Marquis Clayton (Halifax, N.S.) paced all scorers with 24 points and added six assists and three steals in the win as SMU improves to 8-5 and has 20 points.

Cape Breton led 23-16 after 10 minutes and outscored the Huskies 19-17 in the second quarter and took a 42-33 lead into halftime.

Saint Mary's jumped out in the second half, outscoring CBU 39-10 in the third quarter and held a 72-52 cushion.

A closer final frame saw both teams combine for 50 points, as Saint Mary's held the advantage 30-20 and took the 102-72 decision.

Kenny Jean-Louis (Montreal, Que.) led the Capers with 14 points while Junior Moaku-Matia (Hamilton, Ont.) had 12 and Aaron Hayles (Pickering, Ont.) 10.

Brian Rouse (Mississauga, Ont.) finished with 15 points for the Huskies while Theon Reefer (Toronto, Ont.) had 14 and Tristan Arthurs (Vancouver, B.C.) 10.

Cape Breton hosts Dalhousie (8-4, 20 points) January 27th and 28th while Saint Mary's visits UNB (8-4, 24 points) January 27th and UPEI (4-7, 10 points) January 28th.

Tip-off for all four games is 8 p.m.
