SMU topples MUN 113-65

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's Huskies kept their winning streak alive with a 113-65 win over the visiting Memorial Seahawks in AUS men's basketball action from the Homburg Centre.

 

The Huskies sit in 1st place with 18 consecutive wins and the Memorial Seahawks fall to 6-11 and are tied for 6th in the standings with Acadia. 

 

Memorial led 23-19 after the first quarter, but then it was all SMU.  They outscored MUN 37 – 12 in the 2nd quarter and continued their scoring frenzy into the 3rd and 4th quarters.

 

The Huskies finished the night with five players in double digits. Lake Echo's, Johneil Johnson lead the Huskies scoring with 18 points and 8 rebounds. 

 

Qyemah Gibson (Nassau, Bahamas) had 16 points, Brent Martindale (Kingston, ON) 13, Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) 12 and Halifax's, Will Spaulding also added 12.

 

For the Seahawks, Emanuel Ring (St. John's, NL) led with 18 points and 8 rebounds followed by Nathan Baker (Massey Drive, NL) with 17 points and 7 rebounds. 

 

The Huskies and the Seahawks meet again Sunday at the Homburg Centre at 3 p.m. to end their complete weekend series.

 

Next weekend the Huskies end their regular season with a trip to Fredericton to face the 2nd place UNB Reds and Memorial host the Dalhousie Tigers for a pair to complete their season.
