Huskies beat StFX 95-88 in men’s basketball action

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—Behind 23 points from Qyemah Gibson (Nassau, Bahamas) the Saint Mary's Huskies men's basketball team defeated StFX, 95-88, on Wednesday night in Atlantic University Sport basketball action from the Homburg Centre.

Gibson, a 6-foot-5 forward, added nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks as the Huskies improve to 2-3 on the year in conference play.

SMU jumped out to a 19-7 lead after ten minutes and outscored StFX 32-28 in the second quarter.

The Huskies led 51-35 at the half.

The X-Men outscored SMU 22-17 in the third quarter and trimmed Saint Mary's lead to 11, 68-57 after thirty minutes.

StFX chipped away in the final frame, outscoring Saint Mary's 31-27 and the Huskies held on for the 95-88 victory.

Dondre Reddick (Antigonish, NS) and Azaro Roker (Nassau, Bahamas) each paced StFX with 17 points apiece, while Roker added a double-double with 21 rebounds.

Thomas Legallais (Cornwall, ON) had 16 and Avan Nava (Mississauga, ON) 15 for the X-Men, who drop to 1-3 on the year.

All five starters scored in double-figures for Saint Mary's.

Sebastian Gray (Nassau Bahamas) had 17 points while Johneil Johnson (Lake Echo, NS) and Dontae Mitchell (Vaughan, ON) each had 13.

Travis Adams (Halifax, NS) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams conclude their home-and-home series November 16th at 8 p.m. in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
