Sea-Hawks defeat Huskies in final game of regular season

ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Memorial Sea-Hawks celebrated senior night by clinching a playoff spot with a convincing 108-74 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball action on Saturday night at the Memorial Fieldhouse in St. John's, NL.

With their playoff fate on the line, the Sea-Hawks looked determined from the opening tip-off to bounce back after the Huskies handed them a 81-74 defeat on Friday night.

The first half saw the Sea-Hawks open up a commanding 57-32 lead, with forward Nicholas Tuff leading the way with 12 points. Huskies guard Marc-Denault Gabriel paced the Huskies with eight.

The Sea-Hawks kept their foot on the gas pedal through the third quarter, and coasted to a 108-74 victory.

Seven different Sea-Hawks scored in double-digits, with Tuff's 20 points leading the way. The Huskies were led by guard Ethan Vey, who scored 14 points off the bench.

The Huskies finish the season with an 11-9 record, qualifying for the AUS Basketball Championship tournament as the #3 seed, a tremendous accomplishment after turning around a season that began with a 2-6 record.

Saint Mary's will take-on the #6 seed UPEI Panthers in the AUS quarterfinal on Friday, Feb. 25 at 8:30 p.m. at the Scotiabank Centre. GET TICKETS

The Sea-Hawks finish the season with a 10-10 record, and head into the AUS Championship playoffs as the #5 seed, setting up a quarterfinal matchup against the #4 seed UNB REDS on Friday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Scotiabank Centre.
