Exhibition - Panthers get by Huskies 3-2 in OT

(Halifax, NS) The visting UPEI Panthers defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-2 in AUS exhibition men's hockey action at the Halifax Forum Saturday night. 

The Huskies got on the board first when Kyle Pereira (Brampton, ON) scored from the faceoff circle at 6:29 to give Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead. The Panthers responded when Carter Rigby (Penticton, BC) tallied from the top of the circle at 11:05 on the powerplay to tie it at 1-1 after the first period.

In the second period, the Panthers went ahead when David Mazurek (Brantford, ON) converted from the circle at 14:19 to make it 2-1 after 40 minutes.

The third saw the Panthers extend their lead when Subway player of the game Sam Aulie (Lumsden, SK) scored when his shot from in close hit the crossbar, when straight up in the air, and landed in the net to make it 3-1. The Huskies narrowed the deficit when Francis Menard (Embrun, ON) potted a backhand shot from the slot to make the final score 3-2.

The Huskies outshot the Panthers 37-27. Mavric Parks (Eganville, ON) made 35 saves to get the win in net for the Panthers. Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) stopped 24 shots in net for the Huskies.

Both teams open their regular seasons next Saturday at 7:00 pm. The Panthers visit the UNB Varsity Reds and the Huskies host the Dalhousie Tigers.
