Huskies Down Tigers 4-1 in Season Opener

(Halifax, NS) In their 2015/16 home opener, the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 4-1, Saturday night at the Halifax Forum in AUS hockey action.

Saint Mary's wasted little time opening the scoring when Bradley Greene (Tilting, NF) scored 33 seconds into the opening period to put the Huskies up 1-0.  Assists came from Taylor Burke (Halifax, NS) and Gerard Grant (Halifax, NS). That would be it for scoring in the first, with the Huskies outshooting the Tigers 10-3.   Once again in the second, the Huskies increased the lead quickly, 37 seconds in, when Kyle Pereira, assisted by Matt Tipoff, potted a marker to make it 2-0.   Dalhousie got on the board when they scored at 11:02 on a goal by Fabian Walsh to cut the deficit to 2-1.  Mitchell Maynard (Cole Harbour, NS) quickly restored the two goal lead at 11:51, to make the score 3-1 after two periods.  Stephen MacAulay and Kyle Pereira both got assists on Maynard's 3rd goal.  In the final period, Saint Mary's added extra insurance when forward Steven Shipley, assisted by Jamie Doornbosch and Matt Tipoff, scored  at 2:32 to get the game to its final score of 4-1.  Player of the game went to Huskies defenseman, Kyle Pereira.  The other two stars of the game were awarded to SMU goalie, Cole Cheveldave and Tigers Fabian Walsh. Final shots were 32-20 for the Huskies.

Both teams are back in action this Friday at 7:00 pm. The Huskies host the St. Thomas Tommies at home and the Tigers are on the road against the UPEI Panthers.
