Hockey Aigles Bleus blank Huskies

MONCTON – Rookie goaltender Étienne Montpetit handled 34 pucks to lead the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (6-4-2=14pts, 4th spot) to a 6-0 win over Saint Mary's University Huskies (7-3-1=15pts, 3rd position) on Wednesday in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game in front of over 550 spectators at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Subway player of the game, Montpetit, made some very hard saves during the game to motivate his team mates to the win. Maxime St-Cyr led the offence with two goals, including a shorthanded one in the third. Olivier Desjardins, Carl Marois, Vincent Deslauriers (shorthanded) and Marc-Anthony Therrien (power play), were able to score the other Blue and Gold goals. Moncton led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after two. Eric Brassard (2 periods, 12 saves, 3 goals) and Xavier Potvin (1 period, 4 saves, 3 goals) shared net minding duties for the visitors.

It was the first game between the two teams this season. Moncton was 1 for 5 on the power play Saint Mary's, 0 for 3.

Blue and Gold players Olivier Desjardins and Alexis Roy left the game early because of injuries and their situation will be examined on Thursday. The Blue and Gold travels to Wolfville for a match-up with Acadia University Axemen, on Sunday at 3p.m.  The Huskies host the Axemen, Friday evening.
