Moncton tops SMU in men's hockey action

Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (5-4-3=13pts, 4th position) scored three unanswered goals in 29 seconds in the final minute of the first period en route to a 6-1 win over Saint Mary's University Huskies (8-4-0=16pts, 3rd position) on Saturday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game in front of over 580 spectators.

Danick Crète and Subway player of the game, Gabriel Vanier, led the offensive with two goals apiece. Crète added an assist. Maxime St-Cyr and Robbie Graham completed the scoring. Joey Richard registered two assists. Vanier scored his first two university career goals, 8 minutes apart in the first period. Moncton led 5-0 after the first period and there was no second period scoring. Goaltender Étienne Montpetit had a busy game with 36 shots (11-13-12). Eric Brassard saw 24 pucks (9-3-12) in the loss. Moncton was 0 for 4 on the power play and Saint Mary's, 0 for 5.

The Aigles Bleus visit the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers on Wednesday evening in Charlottetown and the Huskies travel to Antigonish to take on the X-Men.
