Declan McDonnell named U SPORTS Men's Hockey Player of the Week, Nov. 29, 2023
Declan McDonnell, a first year forward out of Buffalo, NY, was named U SPORTS Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 26, 2023.
Over a pair of Huskies wins this weekend, McDonnell recorded six points (one goal, five assists), adding 12 shots on goal and a +5 plus/minus.
In Friday's 4-3 overtime win over the Dalhousie Tigers, McDonnell scored a goal and added two assists – including the primary assist on Andrew Coxhead's overtime winning goal. He also recorded a game-high eight shots on goal, a +2 plus/minus and won three of five face-offs taken.
In Saturday's 5-3 win over the StFX X-Men, McDonnell recorded three assists – including the primary assist on Connor Olson's game-winning goal – and was named Player of the Game. He also recorded four shots on goal, a +3 plus/minus and won one of two face-offs taken.
On the season, McDonnell leads the Huskies with 16 points in 13 games played, and a team-high +11 plus/minus rating. The first year forward has been especially effective over the last six games, scoring four goals and adding six assists, as the Huskies have won four of their last six games.
