Aigles Bleus defeat Huskies 4-1 in Moncton

MONCTON, NB – The Moncton Aigles Bleus scored a pair of second period goals to take control and defeat the Saint Mary's Huskies 4-1 in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action on Saturday afternoon at J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in Moncton.

Alexandre Couture (Maxime Boudreau, Jacob Dion) on a precise shot at 15:32 and Jeremy Lapointe (Jérémy Michel) 3 minutes later by deflection in front of the net following a direct pass from Jérémy Michel scored these two goals to give the home team a 2-0 lead after a first period without a goal or exciting play.

On the power play, Edouard St-Laurent (unassisted) made it 3-0 at 6:10 of the third period, taking some of the pressure off his team.

Nathan Dunkley (unassisted) at 11:15 cut the lead to 3-1 when he took advantage of a scramble in front of the Olivier Adam net, the game's first star, to send the puck high into the net.

Edouard St-Laurent (Jacob Dion), the 2nd star of the game with his second of the game at 19:09 in an empty net completed the count. Defenseman Jacob Dion was named the 3rd star.

The Huskies outshot the Aigles Bleus 34-23 on the day, but Olivier Adam was excellent with 33 saves for the win, while Matt Welsh turned away 19 shots in defeat.

The Aigles Bleus win improved their record to 14-9-3-0 on the season. They'll be back on the road next weekend, visiting the Dalhousie Tigers (7-17-2-0) on Friday, Feb. 2, and the STFX X-Men (13-12-1-0) on Saturday, Feb. 3. 

The Huskies second straight loss drops their record to 13-12-1-0 on the season. They'll be back on the road on Wednesday night as they visit the Acadia Axemen (8-14-1-3) at 7 p.m. in Wolfville, NS, before returning home to the Dauphinee Centre to host the UPEI Panthers (10-12-1-3) on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.
