McDonnell's overtime winner lifts Huskies to 4-3 win over Axemen

Saint Mary's forward Declan McDonnell scored the overtime winner, leading the Huskies to a 4-3 win over the Acadia Axemen in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action on Wednesday night in Wolfville.

McDonnell's goal came 1:39 into the extra frame, with assists from Nathan Dunkley (Campbellford, ON) and Ben Roger (Markham, ON).

Brendan Sellan (Bolton, ON) scored a pair of goals to lead Acadia's offence, including the game-tying goal with 40 seconds to go in regulation with goaltender Thomas Couture (Levis, QC) pulled.

The Huskies outshot the Axemen 39-24 on the night, with Jeremy Helvig (Kingston, ON) turning away 21 shots for the win while Thomas Couture stopped 35 shots in defeat.

The Huskies win improved their record to 14-12-1-0 on the season, good for third place in the conference. They'll be back on home ice on Friday, as they host the UPEI Panthers (10-12-1-3) at 7 p.m. at the Dauphinee Centre.

The Axemen loss dropped their record to 8-14-2-3 on the season. They'll be back in action on Saturday, as they host the UPEI Panthers in Wolfville, NS.
