Huskies defeat Axemen 3-1

(Halifax, NS) In AUS men's soccer action at Huskies Stadium, the Saint Mary's Huskies got the victory over the Acadia Axemen with the help of a strong second half.

Acadia came close to opening the scoring in the first half when Cooper Coats (Halifax, NS) missed a penalty kick high in the 24thminute. Both teams went scoreless in the first half.

In the second half, Saint Mary's opened the scoring when Tyler Dorey (Cole Harbour, NS) scored in the 60th minute to make it 1-0. The Huskies extended their lead very quickly when Nolan Leeco (Bedford, NS) tallied in the 61stminute to make the score 2-0. Saint Mary's kept it up when Tyler Sellers (Moncton, NB) potted a marker in the 78th minute to get it to 3-0. Acadia got on the board when Travis Fenning (Ottawa, ON) scored in injury time to lead the game to its final score of 3-1.

Subway player of the game Christian Oxner (Halifax, NS) made 6 saves in net for the Huskies.

Both teams are back at it this Saturday at 3:15 pm. The Huskies are at home against the CapeBreton Capers and the Axemen are on the road against the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus.
