Capers top Huskies 2-0 in final regular season

(HALIFAX, NS)—The Cape Breton University Capers defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in AUS men's soccer action from Huskies Stadium.

The Capers came in ranked as the No. 2 ranked USports team in the land and wasted no time in proving it, as Cory Bent (Preston, UK) scored his sixth of the year in the 13th minute when teammate Charlie Waters' (Lancashire, UK) pass found its way thru the box and onto Bent's right foot for the sure shot, beating SMU goalie Christian Oxner (Halifax, NS).

Cape Breton outshot the Huskies 7-1 in the first half and forced Oxner to make three saves in the first forty-five minutes of action.

Stuart Heath scored his sixth goal of the season on a penalty shot awarded to Cape Breton in the 65th minute.

The Belfast, Ireland native made no mistake in his strike and gave CBU a 2-0 lead which turned out to be the final score.

CBU added six more shots in the second-half and Oxner finished with four saves in the loss for Saint Mary's who end their season at 2-9-1 (seven points).

Ben Jackson (Bury, UK) picked up the win and improved his record and Cape Breton's to 11-0-1, good for 34 points on the year and the top-seed into the 2017 Subway AUS Men's Soccer Championship host by CBU in Sydney, NS November 2nd-5th.
