Huskies blanked by UNB Reds

(FREDERICTON, NB) Dan Walker (Fredericton, NB) scored twice as the UNB Reds beat the Saint Mary's Huskies 6-0 on Saturday.

The Reds were pushing early and often, attacking the Huskies backloaded 1-5-4 formation. The Huskies adjusted as the game went on, but it did little to stop UNB's offense.

The Huskies generated chances, early on. Alex Black (Halifax, NS) flicked an overhead pass to Tyler Dorey (Dartmouth, NS) who missed on a shot deep inside the Reds box.

The Reds would strike in the 12thminute. Walker put a great ball in for Ben Gorringe (Truro, NS), who chipped it past Huskies keeper Christian Oxner (Halifax, BC) for the 1-0 lead.

In the 31stminute, Walker was on the receiving end of a great series of short passes to put the Reds up 2-0.

Substitute Maximus Manhu (Markham, ON) made it 3-0 just three minutes later with a goal in his first minute on the field.

Tristan Nkoghe (Sherbrooke, QC) would continue the offensive onslaught with a penalty kick goal in the 39thminute to finish off a four-goal half for the Reds.

The Reds continued to run up the score in the second half. Matt Quigley (Conquerall Mills, NS) completed a nice run through the middle, breaking in alone on Oxner to put away the 5-0 goal.

The Reds continued to pass the ball effortlessly through the Huskies defence to give Walker his second goal of the game, making it 6-0 in the 53rdminute.

The play evened out in the last part of the game with both teams using almost all their substitutes to finish.

Walker was named Subway Player of the Game.

The Huskies visit Mount Allison tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. to finish off their road trip.
