Mugisha scores last second winner as Huskies defeat Sea-Hawks 2-1 in St. John's

Saint Mary's defender Ben-Orel Mugisha (Ottawa, ON) scored a stoppage time winner as the Huskies (2-1-0) defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks (2-3-0) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at King George Field in St. John's, NL.

The game started off as a defensive battle, as neither team had too many offensive chances through the first 20 minutes of play.

The Huskies had a good chance in the 24th minute, as a free-kick by Woody Bain (Dartmouth, NS) narrowly missed the goal, as the game remained scoreless.

The visitors broke through with the first goal of the game in the 40th minute, as a corner kick from midfielder Scott Firth (Windsor Junction, NS), found defender Adam Dunsworth (Halifax, NS) in the box, and his shot was deflected into goal by forward Sean Freeman (Halifax, NS) - the third goal in as many games for the Huskies All-Canadian striker - and the Huskies took a 1-0 lead into half-time.

In the second half, the Sea-Hawks pressed for an equalizer, with Huskies goalkeeper Stephen Bowen (San Fernando, Trinidad) being tested but making several quality saves.

A scramble in the 83rd minute resulted in a Sea-Hawks free-kick, and defender Brent Hennebury played a nice ball over the Huskies wall, which fell to the feet of winger Cabhan O'Keefe who shot it past Bowen to tie the match at 1-1.

The Sea-Hawks nearly scored again just a minute later, but Stephen Bowen made a tremendous save on winger Augustine Opuoro to keep the match tied.

The Huskies looked to bounce back with a winner, and shortly after the 90th minute mark, they found success off another Scott Firth corner kick. Firth's corner was first headed on by midfielder Colton Kaizer (Chester Basin, NS), and ended up at the feet of defender Ben-Orel Mugisha (Ottawa, ON) who took a touch and snuck the ball inside the near post and past Sea-Hawks goalkeeper Louis-Charles Vaillancourt. Mugisha's goal - the first of his Huskies career - would prove the winner, as Saint Mary's held on to the 2-1 lead and secured three points in the standings.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 1:45 p.m. Atlantic Time, as the Huskies look to improve their record to 3-1-0 on the campaign.
