Athletics Nova Scotia Relays/Jumps Open Meet & Throws Open Meet

(Halifax, NS) The Huskies Track and Field team was in action across the province this weekend, with the Relays and Jumps Meet being held at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax, and the Throws Meet held in Truro.

The relays were held throughout Friday evening, with the Huskies racing in the 4x200m and the 4x800m in the men's and women's relays. The Saint Mary's women's 4x200m team, composed of Brianne MacPhee, Kali Gee, Chisha Mposha, and Sahra MacNeill, finished in a time of 2:02.91. There were two SMU teams in the men's 4x200m, with the first team finishing in a time of 1:37.09, being made up of Mark Kidston, Kevin Myrthil, Leon Metchie, and Spencer Berry. The second Huskies team finished just behind in a time of 1:40.35, was formed of M'Kyle Rigby, Matthew Musoke, Greg Williams, and Romayne Higgins. The Huskies women's 4x800m team, made up of Meghan Clark, Blessing Nwaigwe, Lauren Ross, and Adree Lynds, finished in a time of 10:58.97. The Huskies men's 4x800m team, compiled of Drew LeFrank, Jonathan Peverill, Corwin Trottier, and Ian MacDonald, finished in a time of 8:25.59.

Matthew Smith also recorded a personal best in the long jump that evening with a jump of 5.28 metres.

 

On Saturday, the SMU throwers competed in Truro and excelled throughout the meet. Huskies' Julia Loparco and Justin Murphy both smashed personal bests in the shot put and weight throw. Julia threw for 8.61 metres in the shot put and 8.10 metres in the weight throw, while Justin threw for 12.86 metres in the shot put and 9.96 metres in the weight throw.

 

Great job to all athletes that competed this weekend. Next up for Saint Mary's is the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal on January 29th/30th.
