Saint Mary's Open - Track & Field

(Halifax, NS) The Huskies hosted their annual SMU Open meet this past Saturday the 13th. This was the last track meet before the AUS Championships, and for some, the last chance to race on "home turf" at the Canada Games Centre wearing maroon and white.

Foruth year athlete Meghan Clark showed that she will be a force in the Championships as she again raced to another personal best in the 1000 metre, finishing in a time of 3:02.36. 5th year athlete Corwin Trottier also raced to a personal best in the 1000 metre, cracking just under 2:40 with a time of 2:39.99.

There were multiple personal bests in the 60 metre with Chisha Mposha sprinting to an 8.94 on the women's side, and on the men's side M'Kyle Rigby, Leon Metchie, and Kevin Myrthil all recording personal bests with Rigby finishing in 7.45, Metchie in 7.51, and Myrthil in 7.58.

In the 3000m, both Jonathan Peverill and Ian MacDonald raced to personal bests with Peverill finishing in 9:07.99 and MacDonald in 9:36.61.

The men's 4x200m relay team also finished in a personal best time of 1:35.98.

The Huskies throwers compete February 21st at Central Kings, and then it is onto the AUS Championships for the team. Congratulations to all Huskies that competed and best of luck representing SMU at the AUS Championships in Moncton, February 27th and 28th!
