AUS Track & Field Championships - Musoke named MVP field events

(Moncton, NB) The Huskies Track and Field team competed at the annual AUS Championships at the Universite de Moncton. The Huskies competed exceptionally well, with multiple medals being won, AUS records being broken and personal bests,

Matthew Musoke had an extraordinary weekend, winning gold in the men's heptathlon with a new AUS record of 4325 points, and achieving a personal best in the pole vault event of the heptathlon with a jump of 3.20 metres. Musoke also captured silver in the men's 60 metre hurdles sprinting to an 8.44 seconds, just coming shy of the SMU record of 8.42. On top of this, Musoke won the AUS Field Athlete MVP of the Championships. Congratulations Matt!

Matthew Smith also had a superb weekend, winning bronze in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 2.40 metres, and achieved a personal best in the heptathlon.

The men's 4x800 metre relay team also won a bronze medal in a time of 8:24.49. The team was composed of Greg Williams, Corwin Trottier, Jonathan Peverill and Drew Lefrank. Peverill and Lefrank also had personal bests in their own events this weekend with Peverill finishing the 1500m in 4:12.13 and Lefrank sprinting to a 1:25.34 finish in the 600m. In the 1500m, Ian MacDonald also recorded a personal best in 4:28.66.

There were multiple personal bests in the weight throw for the Huskies with Julia Loparco throwing 8.57 metres, Hillary Richardson with 7.51 metres, and Sahra MacNeill with 6.65 metres. MacNeill also recorded personal bests in the shot put and 60 metre sprint with a throw of 8.01 metres and finish of 9.29 seconds. Leon Metchie and Brianne McPhee also recorded personal bests in the 60 metre sprint with Metchie finishing in 7.50 and McPhee in 8.74.

Long jumper, Kevin Myrthil, jumped to personal best of 5.29 metres.

The Huskies men's team finished in 4th place overall and the women's team in 7th place overall.
