Meet Results - McGill Team Challenge

(Montreal, PQ)  The Huskies Track and Field team competed at the 22nd Annual McGill Team Challenge in Montreal. The team was composed of 10 selected athletes who had performed well in the meets leading up to this weekend. The Huskies had a strong showing and competed well against some of the best in the country.

 

The meet started Friday with first year's Daylon Stitt-Williams competing in the long jump and Ashley Murray sprinting in the 60m dash. Both competed well and will benefit from the experience come AUS Championships time in month. Following up for the Huskies were Dominic Collie and Albert Opoku in the 60m dash. Both competed strongly and just missed out on the finals, with preliminary times of 7.23 and 7.24 respectively, in a very high calibre field of sprinters.

Next up for the Huskies was the 1000m, where Samantha Fader represented on the women's side, and Drew LeFrank, Jonathan Peverill, Greg Williams, Stephen Goodyear and Chris Lee on the men's side. Fader represented well finishing in 3:14.01, nearly equalling her personal best time. LeFrank, Peverill, Williams, and Goodyear all achieved personal bests in the event with LeFrank (2:35.90), Peverill (2:36.84, also finishing 1st in his heat), Williams (2:42.75), Goodyear (2:44.21). Lee competed well finishing 3rd in his heat with a 2:50.55.

The first day of competition concluded for the Huskies with the men's 4x800m relay, which was composed of Jonathan Peverill, Stephen Goodyear, Greg Williams, and Drew Lefrank. The men competed strongly finishing 6th overall to cap off an exciting day.

 

The second day of the meet started Saturday for the Huskies with the triple jump, where Daylon Stitt-Williams represented on the men's side and Ashley Murray on the women's side. Stitt-Williams recorded a personal best in the event with a jump of 12.16m to finish 7th overall, while Murray also recorded a season's best in the event with a jump of 10.22m to finish 12th overall.

Next up for the Huskies was the 600m, where Drew LeFrank and Greg Williams both recorded nearly identical times of 1:25.85 and 1:25.94. Following this was the 300m which was represented by Dominic Collie who opened up his season in the 300m with a 37.08, placing 3rd in his heat.

To wrap up the meet for the Huskies was the 1500m, where Samantha Fader represented on the women's side and Jonathan Peverill, Chris Lee and Stephen Goodyear on the men's side. Fader smashed her season best time with a finishing time of 5:05.87 and finished 3rd in her heat. Lee also smashed his personal best time with time 4:26.47 and finished 3rd in his heat. Goodyear recorded a season's best time with a 4:26.21 while also finishing 2nd in his heat. Peverill finished in a time of 4:10.58.

Well done to the Huskies who represented Saint Mary's in Montreal. The team is back in action with the full squad competing at the AUS Relays and SMU Open Meet February 10th and 11th at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax. Go Huskies!
