Peverill secures U Sports qualifying time in SMU Open Meet

(Halifax, Ns)  The AUS Relays and SMU Open were Sunday at the Canada Games Centre, hosted by Saint Mary's for the final meet of the season before AUS Championships.

In the men's 1000m, second-year athlete Andrew Peverill secured his second U Sports auto qualifying standard of the season, this time in the 1000m. Peverill finished in a time of 2:25.78 after a close finish with Dalhousie's Hudson Grimshaw-Surrette. This places Peverill with the 3rd fastest time in the country this year and bests his previous school record and personal best.

During the relays on Saturday evening, the women's 4x200m team consisting of Kelly MacInnis, Sidney Kharma, Abby Dunn and Sophie LeBlanc, broke the previous school record from 2014, finishing in 1:55.77.

Veteran athlete Ian MacDonald smashed his personal best in the 1500m, crossing the line in 4:15.55, while Ryan Fraccaro also ran a personal best in the 3000m, finishing in 9:04.60

The Huskies will compete in two weeks, February 22-23, at the AUS Championships hosted by Universite de Moncton.
