Huskies Track & Field have first taste of competition at SMU/DAL Mini Meet

The Saint Mary's Huskies sprinters and jumpers had their first taste of competition last night as the 2023-24 season got underway for the Huskies Men's and Women's Track & Field teams.

The Canada Games Centre played host to the SMU/DAL Mini Meet which saw the high jump, long jump, 60m and 300m contested.

Kicking off the night was the men's high jump, which saw Eric Wall starting off the season on the right foot, tying for second with a jump of 1.85m. Liam Macaulay also equalled his personal best height of 1.75m.

Over at the long jump pit, Nikola Kriznar took the win on the men's side by over 40cm, with a new personal best of 6.59m.

Kriznar dominated both the pit and the track last night, with a tie for 1st place in the 60m with teammate Jaiden Williams. Both crossed the line in 7.04 seconds, a new personal best for Williams. Other 60m PB's of the night went to Wall, Macaulay, and Magnus Bilmer.

On the women's side, Mackenzie Roach took 1st place in both the 60m and 300m distances, with a new personal best of 8.05 over 60m. Teammate Megan King also ran to new personal best times in both races, and Lori Marsman equalled her 60m PB.

The men's 300m saw rookie Oliver Gavel leading the pack of Huskies, coming in at a time of 37.66, placing him 4th on the night. Caelen Murphy and Noah Martin also crossed the line in personal best times.

After this strong start to the season the Huskies will look to run and jump even better marks in two weeks' time, as the full team will be in action at the Athletics NS Last Chance Meet on Saturday, December 2.
