Smith wins 60m as Huskies record multiple podium finishes at UNB REDS Invitational Meet

In one of the season's biggest tune-ups before the AUS Championships, the Huskies Track & Field team travelled to Saint John, NB this past weekend to compete in the UNB REDS Invitational.

Spread over two days, the meet was highlighted with a new school record, podium finishes, and multiple personal bests from the maroon and white.

Friday evening kicked off the first day of competition, with the Huskies men's 4x200m relay team (Jaiden Williams, Chad Smith, Oliver Gavel and Innis MacMullin) breaking the SMU school record in a time of 1:32.82, placing 2nd in the event. The Huskies also won a pair of 3rd place finishes Friday night, with rookie athlete Katie Pegg throwing 10.76m in the women's shot put and 4th year captain Rory McGarvey running the men's 3000m race in a time of 8:53.56.

Saturday was highlighted by the men's 60m final, a tight race which saw Chad Smith take the win by just a hundredth of a second, crossing the line in 7.03 seconds, a new personal best. This is Smith's 3rd straight 60m win this season.

The Huskies also had several athletes compete to new personal bests, recording the following PB's over the meet:

The Huskies are back home to host the annual SMU Open on Saturday, February 10th at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax. This will be the last competition before the AUS Championships take place in Moncton, NB at the end of February.
