Women's Basketball announce Jayda Veinot to 17/18 lineup

Saint Mary's University is very pleased to announce Jayda Veinot of Port Williams, Nova Scotia will attend Saint Mary's University in the fall, to follow her academic and athletic pursuits.

"We are ecstatic to have a player of Jayda's caliber join the Huskies program. Jayda has been one of the most coveted recruits in the country this year. Jayda had opportunities to attend many institutions throughout Canada, we are obviously excited that Jayda has chosen to make Saint Mary's part of her future," stated head Coach Scott Munro.

Veinot has competed on Basketball Nova Scotia's Provincial age group teams from 2011-16 and was the Ricoh Award winner for Basketball Nova Scotia, female player of the year in 2015-16. Veinot, a 5'11 guard led Horton High School to the 2015-16 NSSAF Provincial Championship, and was twice named Horton High's MVP.

"I am very excited to become a part of the Saint Mary's Huskies Women's Basketball Team. I think that Saint Mary's will be a place where I can grow as a person both on and off the court, and I am excited to contribute to the team in whatever way I can. NS has given me many great opportunities to develop as a basketball player and I look forward to continuing to grow in my home province," said Veinot.

"Jayda is an outstanding person, top notch student and basketball player, she represents everything we look for in a student-athlete. She is the type of student athlete we want to help lead this program into the future. Having coached Jayda on the Nova Scotia provincial team several times, I thought it was a great fit from the beginning and she has certainly been one of the primary focuses of our recruiting this year," said Munro. Veinot will enroll in September and study in the Bachelor of Science Program at Saint Mary's.
