Huskies drop Capers 67-62
(Sydney, NS)- The Cape Breton University CAPERS had their home opener spoiled by the Saint Mary's Huskies, losing by a score of 67-62. Jada Yeo (Cornwall, PE) led the way with a team high 17 points and Kendra MacKinnon (Pictou, NS) came off the bench, scoring 14 points on 5/7 shooting, including 4/6 from three. For the CAPERS, Hannah Brown (North Sydney, NS) scored a game high 21 points and added 10 rebounds, giving her a double-double.
Turning point - With just over two minutes left in the final quarter and the game tied at 60, Jasmine Cain (Halifax, NS) drilled a three pointer, giving the Huskies the lead. Key offensive rebounds from SMU helped them close the game out.
Individual Leaders
- Jada Yeo finished with 17 points, and on the other side of the ball had 2 steals
- Kenda MacKinnon had a very efficient game off the bench, scoring 14 points including shooting 5/7 from beyond the arc
- Hannah Brown scored a game high 21 points, and recorded the double-double by adding 10 boards.
- Madison Monroe (Truro, NS) had a well rounded game by scoring 10 points for the CAPERS, with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks
