Huskies top Tigers 90-43

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the visiting Dal Tigers 90-43 on Saturday night from the Homburg Centre in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball action.

Huskies guard Jasmine Cain (Halifax, NS) led all scorers on the night with 30 points and went 8 for 10 from beyond the three-point land.

The Huskies jumped out to a 25-9 first quarter lead and extended their cushion in the second quarter with a 20-5 frame and took a 45-14 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw SMU with a 20-11 quarter score and led 65-25 after thirty minutes.

The final frame saw a 25-18 Saint Mary's advantage and after forty minutes the Huskies took the victory 90-43.

Katrina Murrell (Markham, Ont.) had 11 points for SMU while teammates Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse (Montreal, Que.) added 10 points and Shanieka Wood (Ajax, Ont.) had eight points and 14 rebounds.

Michele Tchiakoua (Yaounde, Cameroon) paced the Tigers with 15 points in the loss while Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) added nine points and Robertha Charles (Montreal, Que) had seven.

Up next for Dal (2-6) is a weekend series hosting the 5-3 Memorial University Sea-Hawks January 12th-13th with tip-off set for 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Huskies improve to 5-3 and visit 3-5 UPEI next weekend for two games versus the Panthers January 12th and 13th with tip-off for both games set for 6 p.m.

Saint Mary's returns home to the Homburg Centre for a 6 p.m. Wednesday January 17th four-point game versus 0-8 StFX.
