Memorial top Huskies 85-75

(St. John's, NL) The Sea-Hawks women's basketball team, who sat at 1-2 before Sunday's game, followed up their Sunday win with another victory against the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies on Sunday, by an 85-75 margin.

The Huskies came out hard in the third quarter, trying to make a run, but the Sea-Hawks weathered the storm and pulled out a physical win.

Saint Mary's was led by 1st year guard Alaina McMillan who scored 17 points, and 4th year forward Josie Gascoigne who scored 16 in the loss against Memorial.

Memorial was led by Sydney Stewart with 22 points and 5 rebounds. The Hawks also had strong showings from both Sydney Ezekiel, who scored 21 points, along with 5 assists and 3 rebounds, and Haille Nickerson who scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the victory.

The Sea-Hawks played to their strengths, with tough defense, getting 7 steals and blocking 5 shots. The Hawks forced the Huskies into 13 turnovers, which they scored 17 points from as well.

The team also moved the ball exceptionally well in transition, with 14 of their 31 baskets coming off of assists. 42 of their 85 points came in the paint, an area which they dominated compared to Saint Mary's 35 points in the paint.
