Tigers top Huskies in women's basketball

(Halifax, NS) In AUS women's basketball action from the Homburg Centre, the Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 57-47.

The first quarter ended with the Huskies leading the Tigers 14 – 8. Saint Mary's was blocking multiple advances made by the Tigers, in a heated start to the game that left both teams with three fouls for the quarter.

The game was the eleventh match for both teams in the season.

In the second quarter Saint Mary's retained its but it wasn't short after that, that the Tigers broke through the SMU defense to take the lead.  Shortly after the Huskies responded with a 3-point shot from Arianna Macias (TAMPA FL) and the first quarter ended 30–23 in favour of SMU.

The Dalhousie Tigers determined to move up their rankings with a win, increased the intensity on offense. Belinda Ndaye (Toronto, ON) had a fierce block mid-quarter for the Huskies but the Tigers responded by driving down the Saint Mary's defense, dropping several layups.  The third quarter ended with a one-point gap for SMU 36-35.

The Tigers opened the fourth and final quarter with a layup by Karina May (Moncton, NB) and remained on top until the end. Despite SMU dominating the scoring for the first three quarters, it was the Dalhousie Tigers who won the overall game 57-47.

With the win, the Tigers go to 6-5 and SMU drops to 1-10 on the season.

Subway player of the game was Roberta Charles (Montreal, PQ) who dropped 16 points and eight rebounds.
