Huskies fall to Seahawks 72-67

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia.  The SMU Huskies suffered their first loss in the past three games on Saturday evening, falling to the Memorial Sea-Hawks at the Homburg Centre, 72-67.
 
Saint Mary's, 7-7 in Atlantic University Sport action, was led by senior Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, Rhone-Alpes, France) who finished the day with 14 points and three assists in 15 minutes off the bench.

Also scoring in double-figures for Saint Mary's were sophomore Alaina McMillan (Brantford, ON) with 13 points and junior Kendra MacKinnon (Pictou, NS) had 12. Rookie Lucina Beaumont (Fredericton, NB) led the team in rebounding with eight.
 
Alana Short (Barrie, ON) paced all scorers on the night with 20 points for the Sea-Hawks and Hallie Nickerson (Grimsby, ON) added 14 and Ines Salat Margarit (Barcelona, Spain) had 13 as Memorial improves to 11-4. 

Both teams traded buckets in the opening quarter and SMU led 8-7 halfway thru the quarter when a 4-0 SMU run pulled the Huskies ahead 13-7 with 4:51 left. The Sea-Hawks outscored SMU 10-4 to pull even after 10 minutes, 17-17.

Short had 10 points in the second quarter for Memorial, as the Sea-Hawks outscored SMU 18-12 and led the Huskies by six at half, 35-29.

MacKinnon and McMillan each scored six points apiece in the third quarter as the Huskies outscored Memorial 24-19 in the frame and trailed the Sea-Hawks by one, 54-53 after thirty minutes.

Eduardo had seven of Saint Mary's 14 points in the fourth quarter and Short paced the Sea-Hawks with seven points in the frame as Memorial scored 18 points in the final quarter and held on for the five-point victory, 72-67.
