Huskies women’s basketball announce commitment of guard Molly Healy

Saint Mary's Huskies women's basketball head coach Scott Munro is pleased to announce the commitment of guard Molly Healy for the 2024-25 season.

A 5'6 guard out of Waterford Valley High School, Healy has been one of the top high school players in Newfoundland and Labrador over the past three years, helping lead the Warriors to three straight SSNL AAAA Provincial finals, with back-to-back title wins in 2023 & 2022, and a silver medal finish in 2024, where she was named team MVP.

A native of St. John's, NL, Healy has represented her home province of Newfoundland and Labrador on several levels, including at the 2023 U17 Canada Basketball National Championship, where she helped lead her team to a sixth-place finish and was among the tournament leaders in assists and steals.

"Ever since I was a kid, I have dreamed of playing university basketball, and the opportunity to play at a program like Saint Mary's is a dream come true," says Healy. "The Huskies program is incredible and very competitive, and I'm very excited to join this environment and play at the next level under Coach Munro's leadership."

Over the 2023-24 season at Waterford Valley High, Healy averaged 20.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 3.8 steals per game. She was named a First Team All-Star at the Memorial Sea-Hawks Invitational Tournament, a 2024 NLBA Hall of Fame Cup All-Star, and the 2022 Waterford Valley High Athlete of the Year.

When asked to describe her style of play, Healy first points to her defence and transition game, two areas that have been consistent strengths of the Huskies under coach Scott Munro.

"I am able to defend multiple positions and apply good ball pressure with the ability to be agile and quick," says Healy. "On the offensive side, I look to push the pace as a point guard and get downhill to the rim."

"We are very excited to have Molly join our program," adds Huskies head coach Scott Munro. "She is a very strong multi-sport athlete who brings a lot to the point guard position. She is an aggressive defender who can apply lots of ball pressure on her matchup, as well as a good decision maker with the ball who can really get to the basket. Molly will be a great fit for our team."

Healy will be studying a Bachelor of Science at Saint Mary's.

Healy joins a Huskies Women's Basketball program that have won six AUS Champions, including back-to-back Championships in 2024 and 2023, and are three-time National Medallists (Silver: 2013-14, Bronze: 2015-16 & 2012-13).
