Aigles Bleues top Huskies 2-1

(MONCTON, N.B.) - The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (10-2-1) were 2-1 winners over the Saint Mary's University Huskies (4-8-1)  in an AUS women's hockey game played Friday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Subway player of the game Katryne Villeneuve had both Aigles Bleues goals, one in the first and the other in the third period, the last one on the power play.

Natacha Bergeron and Marika Lacroix had the assist on one Villeneuve goal while the other was unassisted. 

Caitlyn Manning was able to get the puck behind Moncton goaltender Émilie Bouchard, on the power play, with 1:24 left to play in the game.

Moncton had a 28-22 edge on shots on goal. Justine McIntosh made 26 saves in net for the Huskies.

"Saint Mary's is progressing well and today, it was another hard battle," said Moncton head coach Denis Ross. "We had three power plays in the first and we could not score. We finally got one in the third. The game with the X-Women should be exciting."

"This was not our best game as a team, but we progressed period by period and we gave it an extra effort for the win," said Villeneuve. "We were not aggressive enough around the net in the first. We had to adjust."

The Aigles will now host the St. Francis Xavier University X-Women (12-1-0) Saturday at 2 p.m. This game marks the end of the Aigles first semester schedule. 

The Huskies will visit the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown at the same time for their final matchup before the holiday break.
