Huskies get by Waterloo 2-1 in exhibition

(Antigonish, NS) The early game at 4 p.m. on Friday, saw the Saint Mary's Huskies edge the Waterloo Warriors 2-1.

The Huskies opened the scoring when Caitlyn Manning (Cambridge, ON) tallied at 1:55, on assists from Carly Gray (Williamswood, NS) and Caitlyn Schell (Waterford, NS).

At 15:03, Courtney Simpson (Komoka, ON) knotted the game for the Warriors, with helpers from Maryn Caragata (Etobicoke, ON) and Amy Barnard (Cambridge, ON).

After a scoreless second period, Mary Worndl (Lunenburg, NS) found the back of the net at 17:54, which provided the one-goal win for Saint Mary's.  Hannah Askin  (Waterloo, ON) collected the lone assist versus her hometown university team. 

Worndl was player of the game for the Huskies, while goaltender Stephanie Sluys (Clinton, ON) got the nod for the Warriors.

Saint Mary's held a 23-16 shots-on-goal edge over Waterloo.

Rebecca Clark (Keswick, ON) stopped 15 shots for the win, while Sluys made 21 saves in the loss.            

The final day of the exhibition tournament will feature the Warriors and Stingers, at 10:30 a.m., followed by an AUS rivalry featuring the X-Women and Huskies, at 1 p.m.

Both games will take place at the Keating Centre.
