Huskies win 3-1 over Panthers

Charlottetown, PE - Saturday night the third place UPEI Panthers (14-8-1) hosted first place Saint Mary's Huskies in AUS Women's hockey action.

 

The league leading Huskies wasted no time getting on the board as they found the back of net just over a minute into the game on a goal by Sarah Rumbell. The Huskies continued to push the Panthers and took a 3-0 lead into the intermission following goals from Haylee Tretiak and Laura Polak on the powerplay.

 

The Panthers began to fight back when Emma Martin scored unassisted on the powerplay in the final minutes of the second.

 

The third period featured both teams buckling down defensively and neither team was able to score a goal.

 

Subway player of the game from the Saint Mary's Huskies was Caitlyn Manning. Manning finished the game with 2 assists, +3, and 70% on faceoffs.

 

Marie-Soleil Deschenes took the loss for the Panthers making 23 saves, while Rebecca Clark made 27 saves in her win for the Huskies.

 

Huskies outshot the Panthers 28-26.

 

The Panthers will play their last game of the season when they host the St. Thomas Tommies Saturday, February 11th game time 7:00PM.
