Hockey Aigles Bleues fall 4-1 to the Huskies

MONCTON – Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (5-7-2=12pts, 5th place) tried hard, but were not able to score goals as they fell 4-1 to the Saint Mary's University Huskies (10-3-1=21pts, 2^nd position), on Saturday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena, in an Atlantic University Sport women's hockey game.

Siobhan Birch, in the first period, Laura Henwood and Brooke Murphy, in the second and Breana Lanceleve, in the third were the Huskies markswomen. Brittany Poitras, on the power play, got the lone Aigles goal, in the middle period. Gabrielle Forget faced 31 shots in front of the Moncton net for the loss. Rebecca Clark had 19 for the win. The Huskies were 0 in 5 on the power play while Moncton was 1 for 5.

''The Huskies played better than us for most of the game,'' said Moncton coach, Denis Ross. ''Their offensive and defensive plays were better. That is what made the difference in this game. We were not able to terminate our plays and that was the story of our first half season. We are not scoring and lacking some game sense.''

''This is our last game of the first semester and I expected a much better record,'' the coach added. ''We only scored 25 goals in 14 games and that is not enough to win. We have less than two goals per game. I now nothing is easy in this league. We are looking forward to playing in Edmundston, on Saturday against the Cégep Saint-Laurent.''

The Aigles Bleues have completed their first half of the regular schedule. They play an exhibition game in Edmundston on Saturday, at 2 p.m. at the Centre Jean-Daigle, against the Cégep Saint-Laurent.

The Huskies are finished for the first semester and next take on Dalhousie in exhibition play on December 30th in Bridgewater in the "Battle of the Halifax Cup".
