Wilkinson scores pair to lead Huskie over Aigles Bleus 2-1 in 2OT

The Saint Mary's Huskies (20-3-1) finished the regular season on a high note with a 2-1 double-overtime win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (10-10-4).

It was a defensive battle game, with a lot of board play and little room to make plays for either side.

Kiana Wilkinson (Prince George, B.C.) netted both goals for SMU.

Ashley Forler (Kitchener, Ont.) made 17-saves to stay undefeated in her first AUS season.

Katryne Villeneuve (Casselman, Ont.) scored for U de M.

Gabrielle Forget (Joliette, Que.) finished with 32-saves, including a number of highlight reel stops at the end of the first overtime.

Wilkinson opened the scoring with a power play marker at 18:32 of the second. The Huskies had control in the offensive-zone, Brooke Murphy (Balla Philip, N.B.) tipped a point shot wide, Mary Worndl (Kitchener, Ont.) picked it up in the left corner and sent it back to Wilkinson who fired a shot that bounced off the end wall and in off the back of Forget's leg.

Villeneuve tied it up with a power play goal 6:36 into the third. Brittany Poitras (Saint-André, N.B.) tapped it back to Villeneuve on the point; she walked the line and ripped a wrister through traffic and in high blocker.

Forget was the star of the first four-on-four overtime period. Forcing another five-minutes of three-on-three.

Wilkinson found the winner 1:29 in. Laura Polak (Bedford, N.S.) feathered a pass from the point to Wilkinson crashing the back post and she deflected it in over the pad.

Shots were 34-18 for SMU.

Saint Mary's honoured their class of graduating players with a pregame ceremony. Beatrice Harrietha (Guelph, Ont.), Hannah Askin (Waterloo, Ont.), Worndl, Nicole Blanche (Dunville, N.L.), Polak and Breanna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, N.S.) were all presented with plaques and jerseys to commemorate their time as Huskies.

Up next, Les Aigles Bleus are in line to play the Dalhousie Tigers in the first round of the AUS playoffs.

The Huskies are the number two seed in the playoffs and will face the highest seed to emerge from the first round.
