Huskies start season with 3-2 double OT win over the Tigers

(Halifax, NS) Game one of the 2018/19 AUS women's hockey season, got off to an exciting start at the Halifax Forum Wednesday night. The Tigers hosted the Huskies, and it was Saint Mary's in double OT with the 3-2 win. 

 

Dalhousie opened the scoring in the 1stand lead 1-0 after the first. 

 

The second period was all SMU.  Siobhan Birch (Mississauga, ON) scored a pair of goals for the Huskies.  The first coming at 3:29 and the second late in the period to give the Huskies the one goal advantage at the end of two. 

 

Midway through the third, the Tigers got back on the board and evened the score at two a piece forcing overtime. 

 

It took two extra periods for the Huskies to break through. Laura Horwood (Grand falls-Windsor, NL) scored at 6:38 of the second OT period to give Saint Mary's the 3-2 win. 

 

Siobhan Birch was awarded the Subway Player of the Game.  The Huskies travel to Sackville to take on the Mounties on Friday.  Game time 7 p.m.
