Huskies earn win in lopsided game over MTA

(Sackville, NS). In AUS women's hockey action, the Saint Mary's Huskies improved their record to 15-2, in a lopsided 10-1 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties.

 

Siobhan Birch (Mississauga, ON) opened up the game scoring at 2:48 of the first to give SMU an early 1-0.  Assisting on the goal were Ellen Laurence (Kentville, NS) and Brooke Murphy (Balla Phillip, NB). 

 

The Mounties only goal of the game came at the 3:20 mark of the first from Maddy Koughan.

 

The Huskies would get two more in the first, coming from Ellen Laurence and Mary McDonaldCaleigh Meraw (Red Deer, AB) picked up an assist on both goals and Aimee O'Neill, Shae Demale each picked up one. 

 

The Huskies led 3-1 after one. 

 

Saint Mary's once again got their scoring going in the 2nd, 7:45 minutes in, Siobhan Birch picked up her second goal of the night to give them a 4-1 lead.  Kiana Wilkinson and Taylor Keeping picked up the assists. 

 

Less than a minute later, Katie Peddle scored, assisted by Wilkinson and Horwood to make it 5-1. 

 

Eve LeBlanc (Petit-Rocher, NB) finished off the scoring in the second frame, getting assists from Siohban Birch and Taylor Keeping.

 

Moving into the third, with a comfortable 6-1 lead, the Huskies scored quickly on a Miranda Hatt (Eastern Passage, NS) goal.  Caleigh Meraw picked up her third assist of the night and Siobhan Birch got her fourth point on an assist.

 

The scoring continued when Aimee O'Neill scored unassisted at the 5:39 mark.  Siobhan Birch completed a hat trick and got a game high 5 points when she scored at 5:55 on a goal assisted by Caleigh Meraw and Ellen Laurence.

 

Taylor Keeping (Hacketts Cove, NS) finished off the scoring on a power play goal at 13:22.  Eve LeBlanc and Kiana Wilkinson picked up the assists.

 

The three stars of the night were Siobhan Birch (3 goals, 2 assists), Caleigh Meraw (4 assists), and Kiana Wilkinson (3 assists). 

 

SMU was 3 for 5 on the power play, while the Mounties were 0-7.  Shots were 25-23 in favor of MTA.

 

Saint Mary's takes on the St. Thomas Tommies in their final game of the first semester, Friday night in Fredericton.
