Huskies drop 43-27 decision to visiting Panthers

(HALIFAX, N.S.)  In rainy and windy conditions, the visiting UPEI Panthers defeated the SMU Huskies 43-27 in Atlantic University Sport women's rugby action Sunday afternoon.

UPEI came out strong in the 1st half building a quick 12-0 lead with two long runs for tries.

The Huskies got on the scoring board with a try on a hard fought possession to trim UPEI's lead12-5.

UPEI answered right back for a 17-5 lead. Both teams traded tries to end the half with UPEI kicking two converts for a 24-10 half time lead.

Opening up the 2nd half, both teams traded tries for a UPEI 29-17 cushion.

Each team had two more tries to end the game with the Panthers making two converts in the half for a 43-27 win.

UPEI beat Saint Mary's 54-12 two weeks ago and the Huskies have improved overall in their last two games; with today's 2nd half score being 19-15.

It was the final home game for 5th year players: Amanda Campbell, Dartmouth, NS, Renee Champagne, Burlington, ON, Kaitlyn Sobey, Searletown, PE, and Hannah Wallace, New Glasgow, NS.

Saint Mary's returns to action Sunday October 19th at 2pm when they travel to STFX.
