Huskies fall to #1 X-Womens in rugby semi-final

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The CIS No. 2 ranked and 1st seeded StFX X-Women will advance to the AUS Women's Rugby championship game after a 100-0 semi-final win over the fourth seeded Saint Mary's Huskies.

Anna Simonds, named the Subway Player of the Game, scored 20 points in conversins and one try, as the StFX X-Women scored 100 unanswered points against the Huskies.

Four minutes into the game, Breanna Allison scored on a converted try to give the X-Women an early 7-0 lead that would cascade into the eventual win. Allison and Mia Huysmans both posted a team high three trys on the day.

Jenna Downey, Sara Gandy and Lauren Agnew each scored two trys each in the victory.

Huskie Amy Thompson was named the Subway Player of the Game for Saint Mary's.

2014 AUS Coach of the Year Mike Cavanagh pointed out that his team played better as the game carried onward. "The girls played a good game and stronger as the game went on . Full credits to Saint Mary's for playing for a full 80 minutes".

As the X-Women move onward to the Championship final with the convincing win, Cavanagh insists that his team takes each game seriously. "We try and play one game at a time . You can never afford to look to far ahead . We try to show respect to our opposition", pointed out Cavanagh. "Whomever we play in the final it will be a tough game".

The defending AUS Champion StFX X-Women will meet the Acadia Axewomen in the final after Acadia's 39-12 win over UPEI. Game time 3:00 pm Sunday, October 26.
