SMU falls 5-1 to UdeM

(Halifax, NS)—The Saint Mary's Huskies lost their 2016 home-opener 5-1 to the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues Sunday afternoon in AUS women's soccer action.

Moncton took an early 1-0 lead on Alexandra Maltais' unassisted goal at 13:08.

Adele Cormier added Moncton's second goal at 38:47 on an assist from Maltais.  Maltais scored the next two goals two minutes apart and Moncton took a 4-0 lead.

SMU's Mary Bennett (Vernon, BC) added a goal late in the half and the Aigles Bleues led 4-1 at halftime.

Vickie Savoie scored in the 51st minute on a Renee Gauvin assist for a 5-1 Moncton cushion.

Catherine Poirier took the win in nets for Moncton and had three saves in 90 minutes.

Ashley Blank (Dartmouth, NS) took the loss for SMU and finished with two saves.

Moncton improves to 2-0 and hosts StFX September 17th at 1pm.

SMU drops to 0-2 and hosts Mount Allison September 17th at 1pm.
