(Halifax, NS)--A Lauren Cubbon hat-trick propelled the UNB Varsity Reds 4-0 over the SMU Huskies Saturday afternoon in AUS women's soccer action.
The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native needed only 59 minutes to be named the Subway Player of the Match.
UNB took a 1-0 lead on a goal-scorers goal in the 25th minute when Cubbon, who beat two defenders to the inside, dribbled to her left and fired off a perfectly placed shot, beating SMU goalie Samantha Sarty.
Cubbon added back-to-back goals two minutes apart in the 57th and 59th minutes, with her last goal coming on a penalty kick, good for her sixth of the year.
Sarah Moignard (Vancouver, BC) added a late V-Red goal, her first, off a header on a bouncing ball coming from a 90th minute corner kick.
Sami-Jo Bell (East Dover, NS) improves to 2-2-1 and made two saves for UNB.
Smarty, the New Germany, Nova Scotia native, made six saves for Saint Mary's and falls to 0-2-0.
