UPEI top Saint Mary’s 2-0

(HALIFAX, NS)—The UPEI Panthers used two goals late in each half and defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 2-0 Friday night in AUS women's soccer action from Huskies Stadium.

Jennifer Balderston (Cornwall, PE) scored in the 39th minute on a corner kick from the right side.

Balderston's ball somehow found the back of the net and her fourth goal on the year gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead they took in at half.

Jade-Evelyne Bellemare (Shawinigan, QC) scored her first of the year in the 81st minute on a long ball pass from Lauren Clarke (Charlottetown, PE).

Goalie Allison Muise (Charlottetown, PE) picked up her first win, with seven saves for UPEI.

Ashley Blank (Dartmouth, NS) made some outstanding saves, but picked up the loss in nets for the Huskies.

UPEI outshot Saint Mary's 12-9 and held a 7-2 save advantage in the contest.

Several Saint Mary's players had scoring chances on the night with Mary Bennett (Vernon, BC) being robbed on several occasions.  Each team took six corner kicks apiece.

Both teams return to action Sunday October 1st at 1 p.m. the Huskies host Acadia at Huskies Stadium and UPEI visits Cape Breton.
