Karakostsas gets her first career goal as the Huskies tie the X-Women

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's Huskies women's soccer team tied the StFX X-Women 1-1 on a beautiful afternoon at Huskies Stadium.

The game was scoreless in the first half due to a large part of the play of Huskies' keeper Ashley Blank (Cole Harbour, NS). Blank made two great saves on Kelsey Ellis (Ottawa, Ont.) and Amanda Smith (Ottawa, ON). Ellis had the ball passed to her in the box and Blank came out and gave Ellis no option but to shoot the ball right at her. Smith had the ball running into the right side the box. She fired a hard low-shot towards the left side of the net and Blank dove to keep it out.

Saint Mary's had an excellent chance to break-open the scoring near the end of the half. Huskies' forward Julia Dorey (Halifax, NS) passed the ball into the box to Anelise Karakostas (Victoria, B.C). Karakostas headed the ball hitting the crossbar.

StFX opened the scoring at the 71-minute mark. X-Women's midfielder Mercy Myles (Accra, Ghana) fired a shot on goal outside of the box and Blank made the save. The rebound went out to Maddy Gardner (Toronto, ON) who was one-on-one with Blank and the keeper made a diving save on her. The second rebound was followed up by Olivia Czipf (Thunder Bay, ON) and she shot the ball into the net.

Saint Mary's tied the game at the 86thminute. Hannah Lawrence (Halifax, NS) got the ball to Karakostas. Karakostsas out battled a defender and fired the ball into the right corner of the net. That is her first career AUS goal.

Ashley Blank (Subway Player of the game) shut the door for the rest of the game and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
