Pasma’s late equalizer earns Huskies single point in 1-1 draw with Sea-Hawks

HALIFAX, NS – Saint Mary's midfielder Julia Pasma (Georgetown, ON) scored a game-tying goal in the 88^th minute as the Huskies and Sea-Hawks played a 1-1 draw in Halifax on Saturday.

Saturday's match marked the final game of the regular season, a make-up from the originally scheduled Sept. 25 game that was postponed due to Hurricane Fiona.

The Sea-Hawks looked to have the offensive advantage in the first half, firing four shots on goal. Fresh off winning U SPORTS Women's Soccer Player of the Week, Huskies goalkeeper Grace Morrison (Halifax, NS) was outstanding once again in the first half, making a trio of diving saves on the Sea-Hawks Isabella Hoddinott (Conception Bay South, NL) and Kate Hickey (Outer Cove, NL) over a 10 minute stretch in the first half.

In the 41^st minute, Huskies senior forward Julia Dorey (Cole Harbour, NS) was injured in a collision, and before the Huskies could bring in a substitute, the Sea-Hawks capitalized, as Claire Kean (St. John's, NL) played a cross into the box that was expertly volleyed in by Hoddinott to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 43^rd minute.

Both teams brought in several substitutes in the second half, perhaps saving their starters legs for Wednesday's AUS Quarterfinal. Morrison made a couple more saves in the second half, as did Sea-Hawks reserve goalkeeper Ryley Stewart (London, ON).

It appeared destined that the game would finish 1-0, until a spark of magic in the 88^th minute from first year midfielder Julia Pasma, who received a pass from midfielder Anna Pancura (Halifax, NS), evaded a Sea-Hawks defender and fired a high shot from 30 yards out that drifted over Stewart into the top of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Pasma was named Subway Player of the Game for her late game heroics.

With the draw, the Huskies finished the season with a record of 5-4-3, and will be headed back to the AUS Playoffs for the first time since 2018, as the #5 seed. The Huskies will head to Wolfville, N.S. to take on the #4 seed St.FX X-Women in Wednesday's quarterfinal.

The Sea-Hawks finished the season with a record of 4-5-3, and will be heading into this week's playoffs at the #6 seed. They'll match-up against the host and #3 seed Acadia Axewomen in Wednesday's quarterfinal.
