Cara Freeman named to U SPORTS All-Rookie team

Saint Mary's Huskies women's soccer first year forward Cara Freeman was named to the 2023 U SPORTS All-Rookie team at the U SPORTS awards banquet on Wednesday night in Kingston, ON.

A science student from Halifax, N.S., Freeman started in all 12 regular season games for the Huskies. She led the team in scoring with nine goals—the fourth-most in the AUS conference—and 13 points.

Her nine goals scored marked the most by a rookie nationally this season.

Freeman was named AUS Rookie of the Year as well as a Second Team AUS All-Star.

She becomes the second Huskies women's soccer player to be named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie team in the past five years, joining teammate Anelise Karakostas, who received the national honour in 2018.

Freeman also becomes the third member of her family to earn U SPORTS All-Rookie status in the past five years, joining her sister and current teammate Erin Freeman, who was named U SPORTS Rookie of the Year in 2018 while playing for the CBU Capers, and brother Sean Freeman, who was named to the 2021 U SPORTS All-Rookie team.
