Huskies top Axewomen and Seahawks in day two action

(Halifax, NS)--Day two of the AUS Volleyball weekend tournament continued with Saturday action from the Homburg Centre.

 

Saint Mary's went 2-0 on the day beating Memorial and Acadia.

 

In SMU's opening match, Kristina Adler (Brampton, ON) and Jamie Rourke (Mission, BC) had 10 kills each while Hannah Stienburg added 15 digs.

 

Jill Snow (Bishops Falls, NL) had seven kills and Sarah Dave (Mount Pearl, NL) five for Memorial as teammate Kassandra Menzies (Spirit River, Alta.) had 14 digs.

 

The Huskies had more kills (39-20) and digs (65-20) than Memorial.

 

Set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-19.

 

The night-cap match saw Saint Mary's defeat Acadia 3-1.

 

Acadia took the opening set 26-16 followed by SMU taking the next two 25-10 and 25-22.

 

Saint Mary's won the fourth set 25-19 and took the match 3-1.

 

Sarah Ross (Toronto, ON) powered Acadia's offence with 12 kills and Kailey Evans (St. Andrew's, NB) Acadia's defense with 17 digs.

 

Adler had 13 kills for SMU while Maddie Clarke (Ottawa, ON) and Emilla Conlon (Dartmouth, NS) each added 10 kills.

 

Saint Mary's accumulated more kills (35-33) while Acadia had more digs (58-56).

  

Day three concludes Sunday October 30th at 1pm with 3-1 SMU hosting 3-1 Moncton.
