Huskies sweep Moncton on Senior day

(HALIFAX, NS)—The Saint Mary's University women's volleyball team ended the weekend on the right foot with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-21) sweep over the visiting Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic university sport volleyball action from the Homburg Centre.

SMU took the first set 25-13 with a 10-4 kill advantage.

Moncton dropped the second set to the Huskies 25-18 as SMU edged UdeM in kills 11-9.

The final set went 25-21 for Saint Mary's as SMU had six more kills in the set (15-9).

Fourth-year player Maddie Clarke (Ottawa, ON) paced all hitters with 11 kills, 13 digs and 13.5 total points in SMU's win.

Pascale Doirin (Caraquet, NB) paced UdeM with nine kills, 29 attacks and nine total points in the Aigles Bleues loss.

Émilie Landry (McLeod Hill, NB) finished with eight kills and 20 attacks for Moncton while Christelle Bertin (Beresford, NB) added four kills.

Moncton drops to 5-14 on the year.

Anna Watt (Calgary, AB) added 10 kills and 22 attacks for Saint Mary's while Hannah Steinburg (Halifax, NS) and Behany Smith each finished with four kills apiece.

The Huskies improve to 12-6 in conference play.

Fifth-year player Erin Smith (Moncton, NB) added a service ace in her final game at the Homburg Centre, joining Clarke as well.

Both were honoured before the match.

Both teams return to action and wrap up the AUS regular season on the road next weekend.

Moncton visits the U Sports No. 5 (17-1) Dalhousie Tigers February 17th while SMU travels to Fredericton and the UNB Varsity Reds February 17th-18th.
