Saint Mary's tops Memorial 3-1 in volleyball action

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—Junior Bethany Smith (Moncton, NB) and sophomore Olivia Bell (La Have, NS) led the Huskies with nine kills apiece, as Saint Mary's won in four sets over the visiting Memorial University Sea-Hawks, on Saturday night at the Homburg Centre, in Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 25-11.

SMU jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the opening set and trailed 12-14 midway.

The Huskies scored 13 of the next 15 points to take the set by a score of 25-16.

Memorial used a 10-5 run to erase a 16-15 Saint Mary's second set lead and took the set 25-21.

Saint Mary's had leads of 10-5, 15-6 and 20-8 in the third set, as SMU managed to only score five of the next 11 points and closed out the third set 25-14.

The fourth set saw SMU score 12 of the first 15 points and went on for the 25-11 victory.

Memorial drops to 0-2 on the year while SMU improves to 3-1 in conference play.

Kailyn Kuchinka (Edmonton, AB) paced the Seahawks with 11 kills in the loss.

Both teams conclude their triple-header weekend set Sunday November 3rd at 1 p.m.
